At the Edge of the World - $1,375 Framed (timber, mat, glass)
Multimedia on paper, 61 x 52cm
At the edge of the world a strange southern rock floats in the unknown. On this rock are giant green lungs with dainty leaves that turn into white fossils. There are also little black devils whose faces swell into red balloons causing them to pass away in their youth. The giants have nowhere else to go, but some devils moved far away and live a long life without the red balloon curse. A young devil remaining on the rock decides to scavenge bone armour to wear over her small black face and ride a stead with a strong tail and big feet so she could escape the red balloons. She rides past the giants as they close and open their leaves to breath for her home. Her protection becomes a burden - she can not eat behind her face armor and her stead outruns any mates. Survival isolates her as it saves her. Soon, in a final breath, the giants' leaves fall forever. She rides onwards without food into a landscape losing its colour. As she and the big feet disappear into the fading beauty, neither fleeing nor remaining in her home can sustain her.
